Progress is good for the economy in Spain, but it is not always positive. Spain has set a new record in the number of tourists, but the coin has a flip side.

Although tourism in Spain last year was unprecedented in terms of visitor numbers and revenue, it is no walk in the park for Spain tourism sector, as measured by tourist falling revenues.

It came last year more than 60 million tourists to Spain – the highest figure ever. The foreign tourists had a turnover in 2013 more than 45 billion Euros, which is the highest figure ever. Last year’s tourist increase is primarily due to the unrest in the Middle East and North Africa, causing many tourists to choose safe travel destination in Spain.

When the conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa are resolved, it is expected a large part of the international tourism to return to the previously very popular exotic destinations, Marbella apartments.

Even if the turnover last year were over 45 billion Euros, so was the tourists’ disposable amount last year 744 Euros, down 1.7 percent. 1999 spent tourists around 1,000 Euros on a holiday in Spain. Last year, they spent only 744 Euros. Figures derived from the Spanish Tourist Office, Exeltur, and they have taken account of inflation.

The reason is that some tourists no longer plan and save for their holiday destination as before, and travel at the last minute and instead with some money in his hand. Illegal competition from rental of apartments on the black market has also affected sales in the hotel industry, and ultimately, the international financial crisis also taken its toll on the tourists’ holiday budget.
